IoT and the Digital Twin

WHAT IS A DIGITAL TWIN OF A PRODUCTION SYSTEM AND WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO USE IT?

A digital twin of a production system feeds production line sensor data into a simulation of the production line. You can then measure virtual sensors and capture virtual sensor data off of the simulation. When you combine that with the physical sensor data, you have a richer view into what is actually happening in the production system overall. In this post, Chad Jackson discusses the value of running virtual and physical sensors together.

Altair 365: What Is It And Why Is It A Big Deal?

Although Altair’s transition towards cloud-based solutions is not all that unusual for the industry, there are some capabilities that have interesting implications. In this video, Chad Jackson provides a high level overview of some of the capabilities and implications.

Onscale: What is Simulation-as-a-Service?

What are the benefits of OnScale’s Simulation-as-a-Service solution? In this video, Chad Jackson discusses its capabilities and how its’ unique licensing/pricing model enables innovation.

PTC’s Acquisition of Onshape: Implications for Vuforia

The acquisition implications might not be immediately obvious since Vuforia is already connected to the cloud and ThingWorx. However, being able to run Vuforia alongside Creo and Integrity would create some interesting capabilities. In this video, the last of a five part series, Chad Jackson discusses some of the potential with PTC’s acquisition of Onshape.

PTC’s Acquisition of Onshape: Implications for ThingWorx

Are there implications from PTC’s acquisition of Onshape for ThingWorx? Since ThingWorx is already a cloud-based IoT platform, it might not be directly affected. However, in this video, Chad Jackson shares where there are implications with PTC’s other apps running alongside ThingWorx in the cloud.

Microsoft Azure: How Does It Play Into Applications Like IoT and Simulation?

There’s no question that product development software such as PLM and CAD is increasingly becoming cloud-based. However, when developing and using these applications, there are quite a few questions that need to be answered. In this video, Chad Jackson discusses the key questions and how Microsoft Azure answers them.

PTC’s Acquisition of Onshape: Implications for Integrity

Where’s the intersection of PTC’s Onshape acquisition with Integrity? This video is the third of a five part series where Chad Jackson discusses the implications. Other videos to follow will be on ThingWorx and Vuforia.

What is the Xcelerator Platform from Siemens PLM?

Siemens PLM, or Siemens Digital Industries, as they’re now known. They announced the availability of something called the Xcelerator Platform. So what’s the deal? What is this thing about? Well, there’s several layers to understand about this platform. Let’s talk about the lowest layer first. Xcelerator Platform: Web Services That lowest layer is taking all …

Digital Twins: Why? What’s the Application? What’s the Value?

So what is the value behind a digital twin?

When I am talking about digital twin, I’m talking about feeding virtual sensor data from simulations to your IoT platform. So you have a real-time mimic of your physical product.
