VCollab: Democratizing Simulation Visualization?
Conducting engineering simulations in today’s business environment can be challenging. Executives often give a begrudging approval to simulation teams to do their work. But its infrequent that those simulation teams are able to expose their work to the broader enterprise. There has been trends more recently, however, to expose simulation results in new and exciting ways that are more accessible …

The Implications of solidThinking Inspire
This post covers the new topology optimization capabilities of solidThinking Inspire, including the implications for engineering organizations.
October 28th, 2011 started with such promise. There I was, sitting in this cavernous castle in the middle of Boston at the super secretive event that PTC was hosting. I sat through a skit that was… well… I guess the word interesting is most appropriate. But there was Jim Heppelman up on stage talking about serious industry problems that included:
Another day, another acquisition. I have to admit though, I find this one intriguing. Not because the SIMULIA brand feels relatively complete already from a portfolio perspective. More from the perspective of what it means for their whole 3DEXPERIENCE vision. There's actually a lot there. Read on and I'll give you my perspective.

Solidworks Mechanical Conceptual: App-ing the Process
Walking into the Monday morning general session at Solidworks World 2013 in Orlando FL, I admit that I was expecting something. After the openly discussing the move of Solidworks to the cloud years earlier, and the subsequent backtracking and sidestepping because of customer outrage, rumors had it that this was the year. This was the time when Solidworks would unveil something big. Ultimately, I think the announcement of Solidworks Mechanical Conceptual falls into that category. I think that it just wasn't what people were expecting.

Is Mathcad Right for Engineers?
Do you use an engineering notebook? If I asked that question to engineers 15 years ago, the answer would be an unequivocal YES. Today, however, I don't think it would be an easy question for engineers to answer. As I wrote in a series of posts (link to first post) on the modern equivalent to the engineering notebook, there are lots of tools out there that each do some aspect of it. But there's no single tool that does it all anymore.
