Obviously, the amount of time that an organization and individual will spend on individual steps of the simulation process varies dramatically depending on a number of factors. That being said, two sets of findings stand out to me.

On the front end of the process, a good amount of time in the simulation process is spent on getting geometry prepared. There have been improvements on this front with the emergence of Direct Modeling capabilities in CAD software tools, but they are not widely adopted yet.

On the back end of the process, I find it interesting that analyzing results and documenting them are, in general, shifted more towards longer time periods in comparison to all the other activities. To me, this speaks to an outstanding problem that has yet to be solved in the simulation process.
